Approximately every three months Smith Mountain Lake Church members take home special blue cloth grocery bags to fill over the course of three months with specific items needed per quarter.
The items are donated to LCM: Lake Christian Ministries, a local Moneta ministry. This ongoing program is called, “A Simple Gesture.” The goal is to help meet immediate needs of our neighbors by providing food, personal products, and household supplies.
In March we collect bags full of applesauce, mandarin oranges, canned peaches, and pears.
In June the collection is for shampoo, soap, deodorant, tooth paste, and tooth brushes.
In August we collect canned green beans, corn, and carrots.
Then in November the collection is for 40 oz or less liquid laundry detergent, and dishwashing liquid.
It's a blessing to be able to give to our own community! Thank you to our faithful members who donate year round and to those who transport the items to LCM.
